By bus
A less expensive way to travel would be to arrive from San Jose to Palmar Norte by bus (TRACOPA) and takes about 6 hours, take the bus leaving at 5:00 a.m is needed to arrive in the same day. Arriving in Palmar Norte by 11:00 a.m, you need to take a taxi to Sierpe it take´s 20 minutes more or less. Once in Sierpe you take the collective boat to Drake Bay.The boat winds down the stunning Sierpe River, through a narrow canal of mangrove trees, past the legendary Violin Island, finally arriving one hour later in Drake's Bay. By Car
Finally, if you have a 4x4 vehicle, you can arrive by land from December to April . It would be a good idea to verify that the road is open, before setting out. Enter through Chacarita, pass through Rincon de Osa, and then through Rancho Quemado, arriving finally in Drake's Bay. In the rainy season you can drive to Sierpe and from there take the collective boat leaving around 11:30 a.m, in Sierpe there are is a safe parking place.
